In today’s society, it’s easy to settle. With social media filling our feeds with all of the cute couple pictures, romantic proposals, and dreamy weddings, we can so easily fall into the trap of searching for “the one.” I’ve been there, and it’s a dangerous place to be.
I had never really stopped to think about what marriage entailed. I never stopped long enough to view it as a symbol of God and a testimony to His love for us. And WOW what I’d be missing out on if I never did.
When I met Lawson, I had some trust issues and walls up. So instead of keeping those doubts and fears to myself, I was honest with him early on about my reservations. And his response was nothing short of God speaking truth into my life -- “I want your heart to be full.”
And that’s the kind of man you want. The one who loves you like Jesus does, protects your heart, and doesn’t make you question where you’re at in your relationship.
I’m not going to tell you what you’ll feel when you meet your person because it’s 1. Going to be a different story for everyone and 2. It’s truly an indescribable feeling. For me, it was peace. It was a feeling that this was right and there were absolutely no doubts as we continued to get to know each other. Even in one of the hardest times of our relationship when I could’ve run, I had this overwhelming peace from God that this is where I was supposed to be and that we would overcome it. And we have. But that has only been possible by keeping Him at the center of it all. We’ve grown in our faith together and apart and we’ve built a firm foundation on the truth that God has spoken into our lives.
So ladies, don’t settle. Chase after Jesus and Jesus alone. Surrender everything to Him and grow in your faith as an individual. Then, at His timing, you’ll meet the man who brings tears to your eyes at the thought of how well he loves you and who brings an unexplainable joy and peace into your life. And it will be the most beautiful, fun, and best thing in your world.
